n March 2021, Dr. Jay Brinson, Superintendent, Dr. Sean Kelly, Chief of Staff, and the Wayne County Board of Education participated in school board governance training for the purpose of reviewing the standards of effectve governance and for assessing the work they are doing. The week of March 15-21, 2021 is School Board Appreciation Week in the state of Georgia. Dr Brinson and Dr. Kelly would like to to thank board members Nick Ellis, Joe McPipkin, Ray Davidson, Bruce Harris, and Sheron Daniel for their daily commitment to continuous improvement.
When students returned to AWMS, MPMS & WCHS on January 4, 2021, they were greeted by newly-renovated cafeterias, courtesy of the Wayne County School Food Service Department.
On Thursday, January 21, 2021, champions from each elementary and middle school competed in the system Spelling Bee. After a record number of rounds, Hailey Warren from Screven Elementary, and Logan Himes from James E. Bacon Elementary, emerged as the system champion and runner-up, respectively. Representing each school are (front row, L-R): Logan Himes (JEB), Leyton Henderson (JES), Kaleb Melton (MRSE), Cambree Roberson (OES); (back row, L-R): Jimon Height (AWMS), Tyler Turner (MPMS), Cassidy Jackson (JES), Hailey Warren (SES). Hailey will represent Wayne County at the district Spelling Bee later in the school year.
Members of the Wayne County Board of Education joined friends and family members of Mary Helen Willis-Fluker on November 17, 2020, to participate in the groundbreaking for the Wayne County High School track complex that will bear Coach Willis-Fluker's name.
