    Mr. Gladwin Harper, Assistant Principal

Greetings! I am greatly excited to begin my twentieth year in education here at Martha Smith Elementary! Having spent the last ten years working as an Administrator and Coach in other districts, I am thankful to be in my present role assisting Dr. Simon, students, faculty and other stakeholders of Martha Smith Elementary.

I began my education career here in Wayne County as a Physical Education Coach at Oak Vista Elementary. After teaching and coaching at the elementary level, I moved to Wayne County High School as an Assistant Principal. As destiny would have it, promotional opportunities led me to the Long, Bacon, and Pierce County school systems. However, as a product of the Wayne County School System, I’m grateful to be home, returning to my roots!

I have conferred degrees from Lee College (B.S.), Troy State University (Masters), and Cambridge College (Ed.S). Consequently, I have non-conferred degrees from the “School of Hard Knocks” and life experience! (chuckle)

Much of my personal interests involve quality time spent with my family. Travel, camping, hunting, motorcycle riding, biking, guitar, and sports activities are a few of the things I most enjoy. I am active in my local church and I enjoy our community, our schools, our natural resources, and the wonderful people of Wayne County.

This is a wonderful place to grow and nurture! One of my favorite quotes to share with students is by Tim Duncan:

“Good better best, never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better is best.”

I look forward to meeting all of you!
