MRSE Welcomes New Principal

Mr. Clarence Washington starts today as our principal at Martha Rawls Smith Elementary School. He is a graduate of Albany State University in Albany, GA, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education with a minor in Political Science and recently completed his Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership at Albany State. He is also a graduate of the University of West Georgia, Carrollton, GA, where he graduated with a Master’s in School Counseling. Mr. Washington is a Gates Millennium Scholar, an alum of the prestigious Leadership GA Class of 2019, and an alum of the Leadership Pierce County Program. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and serves as chairman of the Edward Bud Newton Recreation Community Center Board of Directors. He was recently recognized as a 40 under 40 Rural Leader by Rural Leader Magazine, Grand Marshall of the 2021 Pierce County Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and a Ware County Hometown Hero. Mr. Washington is committed to uplifting the youth in the community by being a youth mentor. He enjoys serving as a motivational speaker and conducting workshops at various churches, colleges, and community events. 

Mr. Washington was previously employed with Vidalia City Schools and most recently served as an Assistant Principal at Waycross Middle School (Ware County Schools). Mr. Washington works part-time as a Therapist for Helping Hands Behavior Solutions. He and his wife Whitney are active members of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church (Kingsland, GA). Mr. Washington looks forward to taking the approach of a servant leader as he works with the students, staff, families, and community stakeholders of MRSE as the principal. Mr. Washington lives his life by the scripture Luke 12:48, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
