The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires that the school system provide information to private school administrators regarding the provision of equitable special education to parentally-placed private school students with disabilities. Home-schooled children with disabilities are considered in the same category and are also eligible for services under this provision of the law. Parentally-placed students with disabilities in private schools or home-schooled students with disabilities are not entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE), but the district will provide services based on a proportionate share of federal funds.

We would like to meet with representatives of private/home schools located in Wayne County to explain the Child Find process and procedures. We will also discuss how Proportionate Share funds are determined and allocated and determine the types and amounts of services that will be provided for the next school year. We will host this meeting Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Wayne County Board of Education Tech Center to explain this process and answer any questions. If you are unable to attend or have any questions, you may call the Director of Special Education at 427-1000 ext. 220.
