Please know that we are closely monitoring the situation and are in ongoing communication with Emergency Management Agency (EMA) officials and other emergency personnel. At this time, we are planning to have school tomorrow. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we will continue to assess conditions and share any updates as needed. If you feel that you cannot safely travel to school, please send a note with your child when they return. We encourage all families to stay informed and take time to review their emergency plans and ensure they are prepared should conditions change. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to monitor this situation.

Happy New School Year, OES Families!

We are so excited to welcome you back and can’t wait to see everyone at Open House on Monday, August 4, 2025!

Pre-K families: Join us at 10:45 AM in the OES cafeteria for a brief welcome, followed by a classroom visit.
All other grades: Open House begins at 3:30 PM.
During Open House, be sure to stop by and grab a snow cone for $3.00—10% of all sales will be donated back to OES!

📌 A few important reminders:

Please make sure your child’s homeroom teacher knows how your child will be going home each day (bus rider, parent pick-up, daycare, etc.).
If your child has any medical concerns, including allergies, be sure to inform the teacher and/or school nurse.
For those using parent pick-up, please clearly display your car rider number in the front windshield. We have some new staff assisting with dismissal, and they may not recognize you or your student yet.
Guardians are welcome to walk students to their classrooms on the first two days of school—Wednesday and Thursday only. Beginning Friday, students will walk to class independently as we build routines and encourage responsibility.
As always, we appreciate your patience and support as we fine-tune routines to ensure safety and efficiency for everyone.
Let’s make this school year the best one yet—we’re ready to Turn Up the Volume of Success at OES!

With excitement,

Wayne County Schools Shine! We’re proud to celebrate James E. Bacon Elementary, Martha Rawls Smith Elementary, and Odum Elementary for being named to the Proficient List by the Georgia Department of Education through the John Hancock Award! This recognition highlights our schools’ excellence in teaching cursive writing – a skill that strengthens student confidence, supports cognitive growth, and connects learners to history. Schools on the Proficient List have shown that 90% of their students can confidently write their names in cursive, preparing them for academic success and lifelong learning. Congratulations to our students, teachers, and staff for this outstanding accomplishment! Your hard work is keeping the art of cursive alive in Wayne County and building future-ready learners. #WayneCountyProud #JohnHancockAward #CursiveMatters #WCSuccess
