To: Parents of Pre-K Students in SY23-24 The State of Georgia has made some changes to Pre-K class sizes for the upcoming school year. The maximum number of students for each homeroom class will be 20 students.  Please understand that this is a state decision, not a local one. This may potentially impact the number of classes we are able to offer at each school as well as the number of students who are placed on waiting lists. We will do our very best to ensure that all children applying for Pre-K have the opportunity to participate. Pre-K registration remains open through April 30. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Karla Ogden at KOgden2@wayne.k12.ga.us or at 912-427-1000, ext. 380.

One of our WCHS students, Tyler Turner, has created a public service announcement for Georgia Public Broadcasting and he needs YouTube likes to win a Macbook Pro and have his video featured on GPB during the upcoming football playoff broadcasts. Tyler is one of the state finalists for the 2022 Buckle Up Student Video Contest and he can win by having the most YouTube likes for his video. Please take just a few moments to view his 30-second video and give him a like. Please also feel free to share the link with friends and family and encourage them to give their like as well. If you have multiple YouTube accounts, you can like the video multiple times. As of 10:15 this morning, Tyler currently has 140 likes – spread the word and let’s get him at least a thousand by the end of the day. Voting is open for the next two weeks. Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PstQfgGHqJ8&list=PLMrw7gLLJkYCwAvnKbtQKCKc_JYKMCFca&index=19 Tyler Turner - Buckle Up PSA - YouTube

Nov. 10, 7:45 A.M. - All after-school activities for today are canceled. This includes sporting events, practices, meetings, professional development, and WCHS Alternative School. -------------------------------------------- Nov. 9, 2:45 P.M. - As of our most recent meeting with Wayne Emergency Management, it looks like the weather will begin to impact our area in the early afternoon of Thursday, November 10, and will last until early morning Friday. We are being advised that it will be more like a series of storms and not one consistent weather event. As of now, we do not anticipate canceling school. We have advised schools to cancel or postpone contests or meetings after school on Thursday. Groups can still practice unless we determine those activities need to be canceled as well. Emergency Management officials anticipate the inclement weather moving out of our area early Friday. We will continue to monitor the weather and make changes as needed. --------------------------------------------------------------- Nov. 9, 10:00 A.M - WCSS officials are in continuous contact with the Wayne Emergency Management Agency to monitor the approach of Tropical Storm Nicole. At the present time, there are no plans to cancel school or school-related activities. Should there be a need to do so, we will communicate this with you as soon as possible.

Weather Update - Tropical Storm Nicole
Out of an abundance of caution in regard to the impending approach of Hurricane Ian, the Wayne County School System will close all schools for students and staff members on Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30. Although the current prediction is for the storm to diminish in intensity as it comes closer to the Wayne County area, there will likely be areas with power outages, localized flooding, and dirt roads that may be impassable. For these reasons, we feel that it is in the best interest of students and staff members to stay home on these days. In conjunction with Wayne Emergency Management, we ask for your assistance in securing all loose items outside your home that might be swept away by wind or water and be a potential hazard that can cause greater damage. Our hope is that all will be safe over the next few days, and we look forward to reopening schools on Monday, October 3. Should there be a need to alter that plan, we will do our very best to remain in communication with families via text messages, emails, and local and regional media over the weekend.

Please know that all students and staff are safe and that the school is now operating normally. There was never any danger to anyone at the school. Law enforcement and school district personnel responded within seconds of the alert so it is comforting to know that the alert system works as it is intended to do.
